IMDG Code e-learning

IMDG Code e-learning

IMDG Code training is mandatory for all shore-side staff involved in dangerous goods transport by sea. Exis has developed a cost-effective training tool, in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization, which enables shore side staff such as shippers and forwarders, container packers and consolidators, shipping line operations and booking staff, port staff, cargo surveyors and executives/managers to receive high quality training that complies with the latest IMDG Code training requirements.

The following courses are available to meet this mandatory training requirement:

  • Dangerous Goods Transport General Awareness - multimodal general awareness course including general awareness training requirements in the IMDG Code, ADR and RID Regulations, and includes details on the IATA dangerous goods regulations and the 49 CFR domestic dangerous goods regulations.

  • IMDG Code Function Specific

    • IMDG Code Standard - for general shipping personnel such as booking office staff, administrators, customer support and office personnel who require a sound working knowledge of the IMDG Code and DG shipping requirements
    • IMDG Code Consignor/Freight Forwarder - for personnel with a management, supervisory and/or safety/compliance role for a company involved in DG consignment operations eg shipper or freight forwarder
    • IMDG Code Packer/Cargo Handler - for those who pack dangerous goods and/or are involved in loading/unloading cargo transport units
    • IMDG Code Ship Loader - aimed at personnel responsible for and/or directly involved in ship loading/unloading operations
    • IMDG Code Ship Operator - for personnel responsible for and/or involved with managing the operation of a vessel carrying dangerous goods

  • IMDG Code Advanced - for those who require detailed training on all the main aspects of the IMDG Code provisions eg dangerous goods managers, Dangerous Goods Safety Advisors

  • IMDG Code Refresher - provides a recap of the main IMDG Code provisions and includes an update on the latest Amendment for personnel who have already been trained online, or in the classroom, and have previous knowledge of the IMDG Code's provisions.

Temporary IMDG Code access

Students require access to the IMDG Code to take the courses, either in book or digital format (this is not required for the Dangerous Goods Transport General Awareness course). We offer temporary hyperlink digital access for an additional GBP 35 per course.  This allows students to automatically hyperlink to the relevant parts of the IMDG Code from their course screens.

Additional modules

Additional modules covering the interface with other dangerous goods regulations are also available. These modules assume that the student has previous knowledge of the IMDG Code provisions and/or is taking the modules at the same time as one of the IMDG Code courses. Currently Exis provides modules on 49 CFR and ADR.

  • The 49 CFR module looks at the additional requirements in 49 CFR when shipping into/from the USA under the IMDG Code provisions
  • The ADR module looks at the additional ADR provisions and considerations applicable to a combined road/sea journey when following the IMDG Code provisions.

Delivery

Courses are accessed over the internet with a pc, laptop or tablet device (iPad, Android or Windows). We also offer SCORM content packages developed to the SCORM 1.2 standard for import into SCORM-compliant learning management systems.
