Maritime safety – two steps forward, but much still to be done, 28 November 2014

Last week saw the International Maritime Organization's Maritime Safety Committee (IMO MSC) finalise work on two measures that are significant for standards of safety in the unit load industry, be it maritime or land-based. International transport insurance provider, TT Club however, believes that while the IMO's recent actions are significant, they are but two stakes that begin to mark out the ground for what needs to done in developing safety throughout the supply chain.

Exis Technologies to launch a new range of e-learning courses for IMDG Code 37-14, 26 November 2014

IMDG Code training has been mandatory since January 2010 for all shore side staff involved in dangerous goods transport by sea, including shipping line booking staff, container packers, consolidators, shippers, forwarders and stevedores. Exis Technologies developed IMDG Code e-learning in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization to meet the training requirement. The online IMDG Code training courses have been implemented by 11 of the top 20 container lines, and have trained thousands of staff worldwide in the sea transport chain.

ICHCA to host seminars on new Code of Practice for Packing of Cargo Transport Units, 1 October 2014

ICHCA International, the NGO association for the global cargo handling industry, and the British International Freight Association will be hosting a series of practical seminars on the new IMO/ILO/UNECE Code of Practice for the Packing of Cargo Transport Units (CTUs). Held from 21-30 October, the half-day events in Hull, Grimsby, West Yorkshire and Tees will focus on the new Code's contents, its potential impact, and how it may be enforced globally. IMDG Code Amendment 37-14 summary of changes, 18 June 2014

Every two years IMO publishes a new Amendment to the IMDG Code,incorporating changes approved by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC). The next Amendment of the IMDG Code, 37-14, can be used from 1 January 2015 and comes into force on 1 January 2016. Amendment 37-14 will be valid for three years - see amendment cycle
